January 25, 2010
President
Kevin Underwood called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. in the
board room. He led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance and the
Lord’s Prayer.
Kathleen
Miller moved and Dale Workman seconded a motion to approve the
December 7th 2009 minutes. The motion carried. A motion
to approve the December 2009 checking register was approved. Dave
Korty made the motion and Mary Anne Workman seconded.
Area
Coordinator, Lisa Waibel, reported for Gary Brownlee. She noted
that 2009 goals were met, homeowners rates have been raised 9.7%
while most competitors increased over 15%, and that they are working
with Lisa Taylor to help her and the County Farm Bureau better
understand the IFB accounting system.
Kevin noted
that Bryan Metsger, CSR, was not present because he had fallen and
has a leg in a cast.
Women’s
Leader Mary Anne Workman, reported that the District 3 meeting at
the Goodland Community Center on February 22 has “Birdhouses” for a
theme and the meal is free to all in attendance. Mary Anne also
reminded everyone of the Spring Conference on March 12-13 at the
Indianapolis Marriott.
The costs are $119.34 for a room, $25.50 for the evening meal and
$18.00 for breakfast. Mary Anne moved we pay for anyone attending
and Craig Fuller seconded. The motion passed.
Mary Anne
announced that Colton Underwood was the District 3 Lugar Essay Award
winner. He will be among the finalists at the Spring Conference,
where the winner will be announced.
Young Farmer
representative, Craig Spray, announced that Young Farmer basketball
started last Thursday at the Shadeland Recreation Center, and will
continue for several weeks.
Lloyd Leamon
informed the board that Tippecanoe Co Ag Days will be held April 6-7
2010.
Legislative
Chairman Larry Underwood reminded the board that we will need to
hold a “Meet the Candidates” meeting in late March or early April.
David Korty,
Membership Chairman, reaffirmed that Tippecanoe County needs 6 new
voting members before September 30.
Mary Anne and
Dale Workman reported on the AFBF Convention in Seattle, WA. They
noted that it was warmer in Seattle than Florida while they were
there, The Ag Day book of the year is “Soybeans”, and the 2011 AFBF
convention will be held in Atlanta Georgia.
Lloyd Leamon
presented the 2010 budget. Following a lengthy discussion, Kenny
Miller moved to have Kevin and Lloyd’s name put on the CD’s. David
Korty seconded and the motion passed. David moved to table the
budget to the February meeting. Larry Underwood seconded and the
motion passed.
Craig Spray
moved that we donate $1000 to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.
Annette Korty seconded and the motion passed.
The next
meeting will be February 23. The budget and resolutions will be the
main topics.
Mary Anne
moved each person’s admission to the annual meeting be a
nonperishable food item or a monetary donation to the local Food
Finders Food Bank. David Korty seconded and the motion passed.
Janice Deno,
Sr Regions Manager asked for volunteers to attend the District 3
trip to the Statehouse on February 3 at 9:30 a.m. Also District 3
wants 5 livestock producers or closely related industry people, from
each county to go to Greenville, OH on June 29-30 to meet with
legislators, media and farmers that were involved with HSUS’s
confrontation with animal agriculture.
The meeting
was adjourned at 9:10 p.m.
