September, 2007 Meeting Report

TIPPECANOE COUNTY FARM BUREAU BOARD MEETING
September 10, 2007

County President, Kevin Underwood, selected September loth for the Board Members and Local Affairs Committee to meet with the local County Council and County Commissioners for a 6:45 dinner at The Trails. The group gathered early for introductions and visiting before the meal.

Following the meal Jeff Kemper, County Council, remarked how well the Council members work together and there never seems to be enough money to fill all requests. The Court System accounts for the biggest share of the budget.

John Knochel, Commissioner, said it is their duty to listen to problems and take them to the County Council. As of now the extension of US 231 from South River Road to US 52 is on hold because of being so much over budget. They hope to start buying land for new Indiana 25 North soon.

Kathy Vernon, County Council, reported Tippecanoe County is great to work with, so many other counties have much greater problems. She said 80% of the budget goes to personal and only 20% for supplies.

Tom Murtaugh, County Council, commented on Cary Home for girls, Local Option Income Tax and sometimes tough cuts need to be made.  Our own Kevin Underwood, County Council, said this was his third County Budget to work on and he too feels the group work well together.  Following a question answer session the guests were dismissed and a brief board meeting followed.

Minutes of the August board meeting were passed out and George Lumley made a motion the minutes be accepted, Jerry Arvin seconded the motion and it passed.

George remarked about there being so much black dust in the com this fall.

The State Delegate Session was held in Indianapolis on August 26th. Reports were given by Roger Verhey, Lloyd Leamon, Kevin Underwood and George Lumley on property taxes, Health Insurance for the Self Employed, working with other State Farm Bureaus and delegates. The group hopes this is the year for lowering property taxes.

Regional Manager, Janice Deno, reported on Membership, the District 3 Teamwork Award, Leadership Training, State Convention, National Convention and up coming dates to remember.

The next Board Meeting will be October 220d or the 29th.
