TIPPECANOE COUNTY FARM BUREAU BOARD MEETING
November 26, 2007
County President, Kevin Underwood, called the meeting to order
at 7 p.m. asking all to stand for the Pledge To The American
Flag and The Lord's Prayer.
Two McCutcheon FFA members were present and thanked Farm Bureau
for their support and gave a brief report of their past year's
activities. Twelve of their members attended the National FF A
Convention, they collected over 1700 pounds of food for the Food
Bank, the group sponsored a fall dance and around 780 tickets
were sold. In December they adopted a needy family to sponsor
and went Christmas Caroling. Kevin presented their chapter with
a $200 check.
George Lumley made a motion to accept the September l1th board
meeting minutes as sent, Craig Fuller seconded the motion and it
carried.
David Korty moved the September and October check register be
approved, Jason Buck 2nd his motion and it too passed.
Dale Workman, First Vice President, read a thank you note from
Derek Cook for Tippecanoe County Farm Bureau sponsoring the 4-H
Chicago Trip.
PURDUE EXTENSION - Bryan Metzger, Director, reported the
Extension office has a new receptionist, Debbie McDole, who
transferred from the auditor's office. Starting January 1,
2008 Debbie Dyer will be working as Assistant
Property Manager. The care takers modular . home is being
moved from the Fairground to Cary Home very soon. The
Fairgrounds remains a busy place with activities ranging from a
wedding reception to a hog sale during December.
Future Extension Programs: 4-H After-School activities; First
Books reading at Head Start locations; Master Gardener Classes;
Regional Beef Cattle meeting; 4-H Enrollment Expo at the
Fairgrounds, January 22; Extension Board Annual Meeting January
31, 2008 with France Cordova as speaker; and 4-H enrollments are
due to the Extension Office by February 1,2008.
WOMEN - Kathy Bennett, County Leader, said she plans to attend
the New County Woman Leaders meeting in Indianapolis very soon.
Kathy plans to meet with the flower judge to revise the Flower
Show categories in the near future.
YOUNG FARMERS - David Raub filled in for Josh Cox and said the
group again plans to have short meetings followed by basketball
and refreshments.
STATE LEGISLATIVE - Larry Underwood reported that he, George,
Dale, Kevin and Lloyd Leamon had attended the November 20th
opening day for State Legislatures. At the Indiana Farm Bureau
delegate session in August the group adopted this policy
statement; "We support permanent and substantial measures to
free Hoosiers from the burden of property taxes." Larry stressed
now is the time to contact our representatives and let them know
Property Taxes are most unfair and that farmland has little to
zero demand for public services. Let your legislator know they
have the power to rebuild this broken tax system.
Larry reminded everyone 2008 is time for another Meet The Candidate
meeting.
MEMBERSHIP - Dale said our county made quota for both voting members
and total membership.
STATE CONVENTION - December 7th and 8th, Indianapolis
- Dale made a motion our Woman Leader, Kathy, and her
husband, Rick, have their expenses paid to the State Convention by
our county Farm Bureau. George seconded and the motion passes.
George than made a motion that all alternate delegates have their
rooms and meals paid by the county and that each person attending
the convention only pay $5.00 for their meal tickets. Craig 2nd his
motion and it too passed. A sign up sheet was passed around.
NATIONAL CONVENTION - January 13-16, 2008, New Orleans. Kathleen
Miller moved that each board member attending at least 75% to 80 % of the
board meetings be entitled to $700.00 toward expenses to the
National Convention. Dale Workman seconded her motion and it passed.
ANNUAL MEETING - March 3,2008 at the County Fairgrounds
Kevin gave a full report of the Chicago 4-H
Achievement Trip, September
15th
and 16th. Those 4-H member attending
were; Ashley Broady, Eliza Scanlon, Rachael Lanz, Breanna Sipple,
Kelsey Bowman, Addie Bush, Kaitlin McCool, Jerrica Zygas, Angie
Brier, Derek Cook, Curt Schieler and Katie Watson. Escorts were
Kevin along with his wife, Sherry Underwood, and Roberta and Dale
Crabtree.
Jerry Arvin made a motion to adjourn and Kenneth Miller seconded.
David Raub, Young Farmer, served cookies and drinks for
refreshments.
