County President, Kevin Underwood, asked all to stand for the
Pledge To The Flag and the Lord's Prayer.
Jill Riemenschneider, from Sheffield Township, attended this
meeting and said the 4-H club in their township had gotten so
large they had branched off to form another local club with 60
to 70 members. Being a new club they were looking for donations
to fund their many activities. After discussion and many
questions it was agreed the Sheffield Township Director should
submit a request for any funds.
Lloyd Leamon made a motion the minutes of the March 26th board
meeting be approved as sent. Kenneth Miller seconded his motion
and it passed.
After questions were answered and explanations made, Larry
Underwood moved the check register be approved, Kathleen Miller
2nd and the motion passed. Two requests were made to pay the
annual $SOO. donation to the Indiana Legal Assistant Fund and
both were paid. George Lumley moved we apply one of the request
as our 200S donation. Gene Nesbitt seconded his motion
and the board approved.
EXTENSION - Bryan Metzger said County Fair dates were July 21
st
to the 2Sth and the Farm
Bureau booth will be in the same location in the big exhibit
tent. The queen contestants were having their first meeting this
week. A very interesting meeting on Local Government Issues is
planned, via 2-way video, for Monday, June 15th , 2 p.m., at the
local Extension office. Please phone for reservations by the
15th.
WOMEN - Kathy Bennett reported on the April 12th Seminar. She
was looking forward to the County Women Leaders Summer Council
meeting on June Sth in Indianapolis. She asked for help with the
annual Flower Show, held during County Fair. Kathy, Betsy
Underwood and Ellen DeFreese are to work together getting
publicity out about the Flower Show and Little Farmers Parade
and Flower Show. Taste of Indiana is looking for help at the
State Fair on August 14, .IS and 16th.
YOUNG FARMERS - There will be a District Young Farmer Picnic at
Columbian Park, in Lafayette, on Sunday, June 24, at noon.
SAFETY - Kenneth Miller told of the importance of calcium in our
daily diets. He also stressed the importance of moving over and
stopping for a fire truck or ambulance.
COMMODITY - Jason Buck said there will be another teleconference
on Tuesday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m., at the county Farm Bureau
office. Jason has been working from the Frankfort ADM office and
will now be located at Brookston. Congratulations.
LOCAL AFFAIRS - Kevin
told of a Candidate Meeting at the state office, Indianapolis,
on June
27th.
STATE LEGISLATIVE - Larry
reported the Indiana General Assembly didn't address the property
tax as well as we had all hoped. It has made home owners more aware
of local property taxes and the tax now goes beyond just
Agriculture.
MEMBERSHIP - Dale Workman said as of May 2nd our county is at 91 %
of the voting member goal and 84% of total membership.
A new program has been developed to give the voting member's spouse
an additional vote. The head of your household is currently
receiving $2,000 accidental death benefit coverage. By purchasing a
new "Membership Select" membership, at $15 annually, in your
spouse's name your accidental death benefit coverage amount will
increase to $4,000 and the spouse will have a $2,000 death coverage.
This program is only available to current paid Farm Bureau members.
LITTLE FARMERS - Betsy Underwood looks for July to be her busy
month. She is asking for good help with the Pet Parade and Little
Farmers Flower show.
PUBLIC RELATIONS - Roger Verhey has the dates of June 9, July 21 and
July 28th as work days for his committee. "Hands On Trucks" will be
June 2nd at the usual location near the Harrison Bridge. It was
suggested there be a sign near the popcorn machine, at the fair
booth, telling what type of oil is used in the popcorn.
DISTRICT REPORT - Janice Deno said some changes will be made in the
District III Team Work A ward.
The Young Farmer Achievement Award deadline is July 1
this year. It's time to start thinking of the Young Farmer
Discussion Meet too.
District 3 Fall Meeting will be August 28th on the Madame
Carroll. More information later.
