TIPPECANOE COUNTY FARM BUREAU BOARD MEETING
There were 19 board members and 2 representatives present when
County President, Kevin Underwood, called the meeting to order.
He asked all to stand for the Pledge and the Lord's Prayer.
Kevin asked for additional items for the agenda and approval of
the June minutes and June and July check register. It was noted
check number 1804, to Kinko's, should have been an Insurance
item and the amount is to be added back in on the August
register. Then check number 1820, for 2nd quarter payroll to
Nancy Verhey, was in error and it will be corrected with the 3rd
quarter payroll. Nancy made a motion for approval, David Korty
2nd and the motion passed.
Dale Workman, 1st Vice President, read a Thank You note from
Elizabeth Byers for Farm Bureau sponsoring her on the Washington
D.C. 4-H Focus Trip.
EXTENSION - Bryan Metzger, director, reported it was an extra
great County Fair and thanked Farm Bureau for their sponsorship.
There are many programs and activities planned in the coming
months, 4-H After-School activities, Master Gardener Classes, a
Family Financial Workshop, Home Canning workshop and others. The
County Home Makers have a program to supply First Books to the
Head Start program at different locations.
The 2008 County Fair will be July 19th to the 26th.
WOMAN - Kathy Bennett, County Woman Leader, reported on a
district county women leaders meeting, scholarships, Summer
Council, working at the State Fair, along with others from the
county, and the Flower Show held at the County Fair. There were
52 entries in the Flower Show and the big winners were Jennifer
Johnson, Leah Skinner and Bill Skinner.
COMMODITY - Lloyd Leamon and Jason Buck reported on markets,
ethanol, soybeans and wheat. It seems a large number of people
still think ethanol is taking food away from the world's hunger.
LOCAL AFFAIRS - Kevin, also a County Council member, had spent
more than eight hours that day listening to County Budget
requests knowing that many "budget cuts" had to be made before
the County Budget is sent off for approval. It is possible there
will be a board meeting with the County Council
and County Commissioners on September 11th.
NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE -
Kevin passed out a sheet explaining the possible 2007
Farm Bill Trade Program.
MEMBERSHIP - Dale said our county is only at 95% of it's goal
with 49 voting members needed before the September 30 deadline.
A "Select" membership is available to spouses of current Farm
Bureau members for a cost of$15.00. A Select membership will
provide the primary member with a $4,000 accidental death
benefit coverage and the Select member with a $2,000 accidental
death benefit coverage plus an additional vote for the family.
LITILE FARMERS - Mary Ann
Workman reported for Betsy Underwood, who's mother had passed away
that afternoon. The Little Farmers Parade at the county fair had
over 30 entries and all went well that evening.
PUBLIC RELATIONS - Nancy filled in for Roger Verhey. She said over
400 pounds of pop com was popped and passed out to county fair
visitors. Tuesday was Family Day and that is the day they chose to
pass out their "give away" items. Harrison and McCutcheon FFA help
out at the Fair booth this year, something new.
The State Delegate Session is planned for August 26 in Indianapolis
at the Adams Mark Hotel. Our delegates are Kevin Underwood, Dale
Workman, Roger Verhey and Lloyd Leamon. Alternates are Jason Buck,

the Madame Carroll, August 28th, the State Convention, December 7th
