TIPPECANOE COUNTY FARM BUREAU BOARD MEETING
February 28, 2006
County President, Kevin Underwood, called the 6:30
p.m. dinner meeting to order and asked George Lumley for Table
Grace. The baked steak dinner was catered by Parrott's.
Kevin called the business meeting to order by asked
Young Farmer, Josh Cox, to lead the group in the Pledge to the
American Flag. Betsy Underwood gave devotions.
Dale Workman, 1st Vice President, introduced guests from
District 3 Farm Bureau and politicians who were in attendance.
Gary Brownlee, Insurance manager, introduced agents trom his
office.
George Lumley made a motion to dispense with the
reading of the minutes of the 2005 annual meeting. Larry
Underwood seconded the motion and it passed.
George, chair of the nominating committee, introduced his
committee, Marie McCorkle, Helen Nesbitt, Alan Kemper and Ben
DeFreese. The same officers had agreed to serve another term but
the county is still in need of a Woman Leader. Kenneth Miller
moved to accept the nominating committee report, Lloyd Leamon
2nd and the motion passed. Sherry Underwood made a motion to
certify the township representatives and officer as Board
Members. Craig Fuller seconded and the motion carried.
Kevin recognized Charles and Marie McCorkle for their faithful
service as Jackson Township representatives for many years.

Roger Verhey, 2nd Vice President and chair of the Policy
Development committee, presented 4 Local, 5 State and 3 National
resolutions for the voting members to consider. After the
ballots were counted we learned they all passed. Roger had
sign-up sheets available for volunteer workers for the County
Fair booth and Ag Days booths.
Kevin had a printed letter, for all those attending, of the many
activities the County Farm Bureau participated in for his
Presidents Report for 2005.
Kevin then introduced Katrina Hall, the guest speaker for the
evening, a member of the State Government Relations for Indiana
Farm Bureau. Katrina touch on the many activities going on at
the State House; tax break inventory, investment deductions,
local governments, biofue1s, corn check -off,
telecommunications, drainage, wine bill, local option tax to
replace some property tax and the decrease in farm land value
for property taxes. This short session is quickly coming to a
close.
The results of the election for delegates to the 2006 State
Delegate Sessions are; Kevin Underwood, Roger Verhey, Dale
Workman, Ben DeFreese. Alternates are; Jason Buck, Josh Cox,
George Lumley and Larry Underwood. They will serve for any State
or District III Policy Sessions during 2006 or until the next
Annual Meeting.
Larry Underwood, State Legislative chair, announced
the Meet the Candidate meeting will be April 4th at the Fair
Grounds. Reservations need to be made.
Old Plaques and Awards were on display and for anyone
interested they could take them home.
Janet Kemper, District III Woman Leader, reported on the up
coming Spring Conference, March 10th and 11th, in Indianapolis,
and the Spring Seminar March 23rd at the Trails near Battle
Ground. Kendall Culp, District III Director, talked about Farm
Bureau awards and Crop and
Home Owners insurance. Janice Deno, Fieldstaff, told us of the
June 29th Leadership meeting to be held in Jasper County.
Sue Leamon done a great job with table decorations and those
decorations were given as door prizes. Those flowers with vases went
to; Pat Harrington, Jeanise Buck, Ron Fruitt, Darrell Verhey,
Jannifer Weston, Nathan Arnold, Jared Bond, Kenneth Miller, Dale
Workman, Barbara Spurby, Jerry Bean, Betty Ray, Jerry Arvin, Ruth
Shedd and Rick Bennett.
