Members of the County Farm Bureau Board, County Commissioners and
County Council started gathering at 6:25 p.m. at the Trails for dinner.
At 6:40 Kevin Underwood, County President called the meeting to order
and asked Alan Kemper for prayer. All enjoyed a delicious meal
while visiting.
Kevin opened the meeting by asking members of the
County Council and Commissioners for their remarks.
Kathy Vernon passed out copies of the 2006 County
General Expenditures Budget. She told of the Council members
committee assignments and said 73% of the County General funds go to
employees.
Jeff Kemper talked on their committee assignments and
the difficulty they had trying to stay in the budget and still make
cuts.
Ron Fruitt said the misbehavior of county citizens
makes the "Public Defender" use away too much of our tax money.
Tom Murtaugh told of his first eight months being a
great learning experience.
Kevin Underwood remarked on how some Department Heads
came forward to help cut their request for the next year.
KD Benson said the house just west of the fairgrounds
on Teal Road has been bought for the "caretaker's" home and the house
the caretaker now lives in will be sold and moved. She commented
on the Central and Eastern Time Zone.
John Knochel talked about the budget in general and the
Court System is growing too much, too fast.
At 8:20 p.m., Kevin dismissed the County
Council and Commissioner members or they could remain for our board
meeting.
Larry Underwood made a motion that we accept the
minutes from the June meeting, all agreed.
EXTENSION - Byron Metzger remarked that he had worked with other County
Councils in other counties, and this was by far the best group to work
with. The position of Extension Consumer Science is still open but
moving along now.
INFORMATION - Ellen DeFreese reported that we may now visit our own
website at
www.tippecanoecountyfarmbureau.org for the latest on meetings,
events, and more.
WOMEN - Janet Kemper said the September board meeting hosts will be the
Young Farmer, October host is Tippecanoe Township with Perry Township
for November. She reported the winners of the county Flower Show
at the county fair.
Janet has been elected District 3 Woman Leader and
Kevin said our county needs to fill that position. Nancy Verhey,
Assistant Woman Leader, said she doesn't feel she has the time to accept
that position at this time. It is hoped Nancy will fill until the
Annual Meeting in February and the Nominating Committee should start
working on Janet's replacement. The nominating committee are:
Lloyd Leamon, chair, George Lumley, Marie McCorkle, Helen Nesbitt, and
Alan Kemper.
DISTRICT REPORT - Janice Wilson thanked those who helped with Little
Hands on the Farm at the State Fair.
The District III fall meeting is November 29th at the
Tippecanoe County fairgrounds. There will be a silent auction with
profits going to the District Scholarship Fund.
The Indiana Farm Bureau Convention will be December 9th
and 10th at the Indiana Convention Center and Indiana Statehouse in
Indianapolis.
The American Farm Bureau Convention will again be in
Nashville, Tennessee from January 8th to the 11th.
Tippecanoe County was still in need of 29 members and
the state organization needs 7,750 members to meet their goal for 2005.
