November 22, 2005 Meeting Report

    

The 7 p.m. meeting was called to order by the County President, Kevin Underwood, asking all to stand for the Pledge to the American Flag and The Lord's Prayer.

George Lumley asked the minutes of the October meeting be accepted as sent, Kenneth Miller seconded and the motion passed. The September and October check registers had been checked over and Sue Lemon made a motion to accept them, Kathleen Miller 2nd and that motion passed.

 Insurance Manager, Gary Brownlee, reported there is a possibility the east side insurance office will be relocated for a better traffic pattern and space.

Earlier in November Kathleen and Eleanor made an attempt to clean and rearrange the storage closet in the back of the board room. They found at least 3 boxes of old Farm Bureau plaques and framed awards dating back many years. A committee of George, Alan Kemper and Sue agreed to meet and figure out what should be saved and what may be disposed of. Also in that closet were a few reflector signs, for house numbers, and Larry Underwood made a motion that those be passed on to the West Point fire department after those on the county board have a chance to take what they can use. Lloyd Leamon seconded and that motion passed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

WOMEN - Nancy Verhey, acting Woman Leader, had copies of pictures the State Women's committee is asking kindergartens to 3rd graders to color for their contest at the Spring Conference. Lloyd made a motion that Nancy be paid the Woman Leader salary from August 1 to the County Annual meeting on February 28th. Mary Ann Workman seconded and motion carried.

COMMODITY - Lloyd reported the grain markets were steady today. He said Brazil, South America, is showing interest in the ethanol market and wants to be a part of it. They feel they are able to produce ethanol cheaper then we can here in the United States.

LOCAL AFFAIRS - Kevin is on an Indiana Farm Bureau committee looking into Property Taxes. All agreed we have a big job educating the public about what farmers are paying in Property Taxes. Some of the areas we may use is television, radio, newspapers, billboards and in movie theaters. Other counties in the district have also brought this issue up and Lloyd made a motion our county has $1,000. Available in advance for district or state use for this educational program. Josh Cox seconded that motion and it carried.

STATE LEGISLATIVE - Larry said the State Farm Bureau has 16 issues they hope to push during 2006. These may be found by going on line at www.infarmbureau.org

MEMBERSHIP - Dale Workman discussed rules for being a voting Farm Bureau member. New membership packets may be picked up at the State Convention by membership chairmen.

INFORMATION - Ellen DeFreese is getting ready to send out a newsletter in early December. At this time she plans to send two letters a year and update the web sight often for county information. She is asking each of us, who wish to receive a newsletter next year, to call Lisa Taylor, 474-6466, at the county Farm Bureau office. This should cut printing and postage costs.

NEW BUSINESS - The District III Fall meeting is November 29th at the Tippecanoe County fairgrounds. Meal reservations are due to each county office by November 23. Young Fanner, Josh Cox, is chairman of the set-up committee with George, Lloyd and Larry helping. They plan to meet at 2:45 and George is to bring a trailer to be used as a stage for the Panel Discussion speakers.

DISTRICT REPORT -Janice Wilson reported she has 21 items so far for the Silent Auction to be held at the District Meeting on the 29th, and she needs that many more. She passed around a paper to sign for meal tickets for those going to the State Convention.

The Tippecanoe County Annual Farm Bureau meeting is Tuesday February 28, 2006. Policy Development chair, Roger Verhey, asked that all resolutions be to him or the county office by February 2pt.

The officers to be elected this year are; 1st Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer and Woman Leader. The nominating committee is George Lumley, chair, Marie McCorkle, Helen Nesbitt, Alan Kemper and Ben DeFreese.

The meeting adjourned at 8:27 followed by refreshments served by Kathleen and Kenneth Miller, Tippecanoe Township. The next board meeting will be January 24, 2006.
